What is strong AI and weak AI? What are the limitations of AI?

 STRONG AI

Strong AI is the study and design of machines that simulate the human mind to perform intelligent tasks. It borrows many ideas from psychology , neuroscience and the main aim is to perform a task, the way a human might do them.

It includes psychological ideas in Short term memory (STM), Long Term Memory (LTM), language, genetics, etc. It has a complex algorithm that helps it act in different situations.

For example : The AI that is found in games is a good example of Strong AI. AI learns from itself to adapt and to outsmart the human opponents. The game of chess, nim, are good examples of Strong AI.

LIMITATIONS OF STRONG AI :

• Job Losses

Unemployment will be a major cause as there are chances of artificial intelligence displacing many low-skilled jobs. Arguably, robots have already taken many jobs on the assembly line but now this could extend to new levels. 

For example - the concept of driverless cars, which could displace the need to have millions of human drivers, from taxi drivers to chauffeurs, very quickly.

• Less Creative

Machines are task specific. They cannot be creative. They complete the task assigned to them within given time range. Although they can help in creating new things or designing amazing stuffs but they cannot match power of a human brain.

• High Cost

Artificial Intelligence comes with a high cost. As the machine structure gets complex, its cost increases accordingly. 

WEAK AI

Weak AI is the study and design of machines that perform intelligent task. It is not concerned with how the task is performed but concerned with the performance and ability.

Weak AI based machines can only simulate human behavior and require human interference.

For example : Flying machine, Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, etc.

LIMITATIONS OF WEAK AI :

• Lack of Judgement calls

            Human can take unique circumstances and judgement calls into account when they make their                decisions, something that artificial intelligence may never be able to do.

• No Improvement with Experience

            As weak AI only simulates human behavior, it will not change according to its past experience.             It will not do the task assigned to it. It will not learn from its mistakes.

• Not Creative

           Weak AI will never use its brain as it does not possess the ability to think. Thus, they will never                be creative.
